Shabnam,

In my opinion, if you want to make a great effect, please try to not make the mistake educators and researchers have made all their life: containing their learnings to themselves, and their papers, and their books. Spread every piece of information you attain and ensure that people from different spheres are reading what you see everyday. When you share all this rich information, these individuals will allow you to transform it into knowledge that will be valuable to you. Promote discussion of your learnings among these individuals, and see that wild and crazy ideas you get. I am not suggesting that these wild ideas will be any good - they will actually be so senseless, that they will allow you to understand why people (educators, thinkers, business leaders) are unable to see what you are experiencing. Your approach is great - learning about failures. But you constantly need to entertain yourself with the stupidity of individuals like me who do not know the real situation. And when this happens, you will get an undisputed chance to explain to us individuals why we do not think correctly, and how we do not take into consideration all those things that really matter.

The day you get this chance, and are able to convince us why we do it wrong, and how you would rather do it differently, you will be amazed by how you will be able to bring out the soft problems we fail to consider everyday.

Learn by teaching us, Shabnam. Good luck! We are proud of you :)

Great post, Shabnam. Teach for India looks promising: compelling video. You may want to see www.beyondgoodintentions.com for reports on what works in the aid world, with 5 min video reports (edited for 4 mos back home). Tori also learned that a longer commitment is better than drop-ins, which can be destructive, especially for children. thanks for your personal views and analysis! -Diane, younginventors2.com

Your blog site is absolutely gorgeous! I'm so happy to see you delving into these questions about how to bring high quality, relevant education to the neediest children in the world. Ismail and Ilaria from Dipin Foundation were recently in SF, exploring these questions and more over the course of many days and many conversations. I'm thinking about it all the time too! They have another creative idea about this - more of a "trickle up" so please be in touch with them and go visit their schools. They arrived in India today!
